PROMEHY PROJECT PROGRESS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Assessing the Situation

The first step was to conduct a thorough assessment of the mental health landscape in the South West region. Our team went into communities and talked to young people through surveys and group discussions. This allowed us to get a clear picture of the specific mental health issues that youth are facing, such as high rates of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and even suicidal thoughts.

Providing Direct Support

Armed with this knowledge, our team then went into the communities to provide direct support and counselling services. Over the period of April 2023 to July 2024, we were able to reach more than 500 young people, offering individual therapy, group counselling, and activities to build resilience and coping skills. This hands-on approach allowed us to work directly with youth struggling with their mental health.

Raising Awareness

Alongside the direct support services, we also launched a major awareness-raising campaign that reached over 1,000 young people across the 3 municipalities in the region. We visited schools, youth groups, churches, and other community spaces to sensitize youths about mental health disorders, educate them on the importance of mental health, maintaining stable mental health including information about various types of mental health disorders, their prevention, and management, assess their knowledge on mental health and inform them about the free services offered by Lifafa Research Foundation.
