PROMEHY PROJECT BENEFICIARIES REACHED

The project aims to impact over 1,503 young people aged 10-24 years. Peer educators are set to engage around 602 youths in the community, while guidance counselors will reach approximately 901 students in schools. Among these, 383 youths experiencing moderate to severe symptoms of depression and/or anxiety will receive counseling from our psychologists, with 182 cases managed by peer educators and 201 by guidance counselors. 

COMPONENTS OF THE PROJECT

This project has 3 components each having the following objectives:

Awareness

  1. Awareness campaign on mental health and mental disorders for religious and administrative authorities, individual leaders and community
  2. At least 3 awareness campaign sessions by the mental health clubs in the schools.
  3. Capacity Building seminar for peer educators and guidance counsellors on the mhGAP Community Toolkit and the IOM/USAID, PFA, administration and interpretation of tests (GAD-7, PHQ 9, RCADS-25, BRS (Brief Resilience Scale) and WHO-5), ethics and deontology, best practices in mental health, ICT and social media.
  4. Beginning of Mental Health Tour for the management of mental illnesses by the clinical psychologist.
  5. Selection and training of 6 guidance counsellors and 8 peer educators are completed and deployed to launch the program in schools and communities.
  6. Guidance counsellor (GC) conference on World Mental Health Day 2023 for at least 100 GCs

Intervention

  1. Selection and training of 6 guidance counsellors and 8 peer educators are completed and deployed to launch the program in schools and communities.
  2. At least 8 sessions (2 hours each) of resilience building led by each CG in the schools and peer educators in the communities.
  3. At least 20 sessions (2 hours each) of resilience building led by each CG in schools and by peer educators in the community.
  4. At least 300 counselling sessions (one hour) in the communities and 200 counselling sessions (one hour) in the schools led by the clinical psychologist with 135 young people expected (65 from the communities and 70 from the schools).
  5. Guidance counsellors create a mental health club in each of the five participating schools and recruit studentlead them.
  6. At least 44 (2 hours each) resilience-building sessions led by each CG in schools and each peer educator in the community.
  7. At least 700 one-hour counselling sessions in communities and 450 one-hour counselling sessions in schools conducted by clinical psychologists with at least 297 young people
  8. At least 56 (2 hours each) resilience-building sessions led by each CG in schools and each peer educator in the community.
  9. At least 850 one-hour counselling sessions in communities and 550 one-hour counselling sessions in schools were conducted by the clinical psychologist with an expected number of 383 young people (182 from communities and 201 from schools)
